Xu Ao-Ao
Chancellor Advisor of Macau University of Science and Technology
Ao-Ao Xu, professor, Doctorial supervisor. He obtained a B.S. degree in astronomy at Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, in 1962. He was a Teaching Assistant and later became a Professor engaged in teaching and scientific research work on solar physics, space physics and plasma physics. He was awarded the Academy of Science and Technology Progress Award, the former State Board of Education Science and Technology Progress Award, and the National Natural Science Prize.
From 1992 to 2000, he was the Provost and Vice President of Nanjing University. From 2003 to 2012, he was the second President of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Macau. He has been engaged in the higher education management work for long time. He is currently the Vice President of the China Education Association and Research Cooperation and a member of the National Space Science Committee.
He was awarded the first-class prize in the 4th Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Educational Output Awards in 2001. In 2003, he proposed his educational philosophy of “Focusing on Both Professional Education and General Education” and “Being inclusive in multi-cultural environment”. Within less than nine years, and under his leadership, MUST has become the youngest university among the top hundred universities in the cross-strait region in 2011. He is currently the Chancellor Advisor of MUST and presides over the research work of Lunar and Planetary Science in Space Science Institute of MUST. As a principal member of the project “Scientific discoveries through analysis of multi-band data from the Chang’E lunar exploration program”, he was awarded a first-class prize in the Natural Science Award category of Macau SAR in 2016.
