Chancellor, Duke Kunshan University

       刘经南院士，1943年7月出生于中国重庆。1967年7月，毕业于武汉测绘学院大地测量专业，获工学硕士学位。1999年评为中国工程院院士。2003年7月开始担任武汉大学校长。2012年获任昆山杜克大学校长。

       除昆山杜克大学校长一职外，刘经南院士目前还担任以下职务：国家卫星定位系统工程技术研究中心主任、湖北省科学技术协会副主席、湖北省通信学会副理事长、国际“GPS World” 杂志编委、湖北省测绘学会名誉理事长、国际GPS地球动力学服务局协调成员以及《测绘学报》编委。

       刘经南院士的主要研究领域包括：大地测量坐标系理论的模型与应用、GPS自动监测技术与重大工程应用，以及GPS技术在大地动力学领域的应用。作为GNSS领域的权威，刘经南院士荣获了十多项国家级及省级科技进步奖，例如，科技进步奖、测绘技术进步奖、国家教学成果奖、教育部科技进步奖和自然科学奖等。

       在担任武汉大学校长期间，刘经南院士发展壮大了一支高水准的师资队伍，营造了跨学科研究的学术氛围，推进了“创造、创新、创业”的人才培养方式。在他的领导下，学校成功制定了一系列举措来整体改善学术课程和课外活动，并有效实施了校院两级财务管理制度改革。

Professor Liu Jingnan was appointed Chancellor of Duke Kunshan University in 2012.  Born in Chongqing, China, in July 1943. In July 1967, he graduated from the Geodesy Department of Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping and earned his M.S. from Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping. He became president of Wuhan University in July 2003. In 1999, he became a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In addition to his role as Chancellor of Duke Kunshan University, Liu holds the following positions: Dean of the National GPS Center, Vice-Chair of Hubei Association for Science and Technology, Vice-director of Hubei Communications Society，Editor of GPS World，Honorary Chairman of Hubei Association for Surveying and Mapping, Coordinator of International GPS Geodynamics Services, Editor of Journal of Surveying and Mapping.

Professor Liu’s research focuses on model and applications of the theory of geocentric coordinate systems and geodetic coordinate systems, GPS automatic monitoring technology and its significant applications, and GPS technology applied in geodynamics. As an academic authority in GNSS field, he has been awarded more than 10 national or provincial prizes for progress in science and technology, such as, Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, Prize for Progress in Surveying Science and Technology, National Prize for Teaching Achievements, Prize for Progress in Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education, Prize for Natural Sciences and etc.

As president of Wuhan University, Liu oversaw significant growth in the size and stature of the university’s faculty, fostered an interdisciplinary academic atmosphere, and promoted creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship in undergraduate and graduate education. Under his leadership the university instituted successful school-level initiatives to improve academic programs and student life, and implemented financial management reforms throughout the university.
