高海燕博士,现任昆山杜克大学学术事务副校长(2015-),杜克大学Henry Newson物理学讲席教授,曾任杜克大学物理系系主任(2011-2014)、美国物理学会理事、全球华人物理和天文学会主席。
高海燕出生于上海,1988年获清华大学物理理学学士学位,1994年获美国加州理工学院物理学博士学位。先后于伊利诺伊大学厄本那-香槟分校、阿贡国家实验室和麻省理工学院从事研究教学工作。2002年加入杜克大学物理系,2008年擢升教授,2012年获任Henry Newson物理学讲席教授。2015年,高海燕受聘出任昆山杜克大学学术事务副校长。
高海燕博士的研究方向包括核子结构、量子色动力学奇异态、基本对称性破缺研究、探索电弱相互作用标准模型以外的新物理,以及极化靶的研制。高海燕在核物理领域的研究以及对高等教育的投入为她赢得多项荣誉,包括中国国家自然科学基金委海外杰出青年学者合作奖(2005-2008)、美国能源部杰出青年教授奖(2000);清华大学千人计划特聘教授(2012-2018),清华大学长江学者特聘教授(2009-2012);第六届中国侨界贡献奖(2016),等等。她在国际核心刊物上发表论文120多篇,在很多国家和地区受邀作会议报告、讲座260余次,并主持多个国际会议和专题研讨会。同时还是多个国际顾问委员会、以及期刊编委会的成员。近期,高海燕博士协同主持了第21届国际自旋物理大会并当选为国际自旋物理委员会主席;主持了第7届强子物理国际研讨会。目前,她担任美国物理学会Phys. Rev. C编辑委员会委员、美国布鲁克海文国家实验室粒子和核物理顾问委员会委员以及美国东南大学研究协会(SURA)理事会理事。
Haiyan Gao was born in Shanghai, China. She received her B.S. degree from Tsinghua University in 1988 and Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech in 1994. She was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign from 1994-1996 and then joined the scientific staff at the Argonne National Laboratory in 1996. She became an Assistant Professor of Physics at MIT in 1997 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002. She joined the Physics faculty of Duke in 2002 and became a full Professor in 2008. She was named Henry Newson Professor of Physics in 2012 at Duke. From 2006-2009, she was the Associate Chair for Teaching in Physics at Duke, and was the Chair of the department from 2011 to 2014. In January 2015, she became the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the Duke Kunshan University.
Her research interests cover the structure of the nucleon, search for Quantum Chromodynamics exotic states, fundamental symmetry studies at low energy to search for new physics beyond the Standard Model of electroweak interactions, and the developments of polarized targets. She received a number of awards including being named as one of the China’s National Thousand-Talent Program professors at Tsinghua University in 2012 and the Chang Jiang Chair Professor at Tsinghua University by the Ministry of Education of China in 2009. She was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2007. She won the Overseas Outstanding Young Scholar Collaborative Award by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2005, and the Outstanding Junior Investigator Award by the US Department of Energy in 2000. She has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has given more than 250 invited conference talks, seminars and colloquia worldwide. She chaired and co-chaired many workshops and conferences, has served on many international advisory committees and panels, and a number of editorial boards of journals.
